DVSA Registration Eligibility Requirements
Before you can begin your ADI training and qualification process, you must meet the following strict criteria set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA):
Age Requirement
You must be at least 21 years old to qualify. You can begin the application process up to 6 months before your 21st birthday.
Driving Licence
You must have held a full, unrestricted UK or EU/EEA car driving licence for at least 3 years.
Driving History
You must not have been disqualified from driving in the past 4 years. A clean license is expected (having 5 or more penalty points often leads to rejection).
Background Check
You must pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to confirm you are a "fit and proper" person to work with learners.
Health & Eyesight
You must meet the DVSA's health criteria, including the ability to read a vehicle number plate from 90 feet (27.5 meters), with glasses or contact lenses if needed.
Important: Meeting these requirements is a legal necessity. We strongly advise confirming your eligibility before starting any paid training.
The Qualification Roadmap
A step-by-step path detailing your journey from student to a qualified green-badge driving instructor.
ADI Part 1: Theory & Hazard Perception
The foundation of your training. You will complete a 100-question theory test covering road safety, driving techniques, and instructional theory, alongside a hazard perception test. We provide full mock preparation software and guidance.
ADI Part 2: Practical Driving Ability
A high-level test of your personal driving standard. You must display expert vehicle control, safety knowledge, and advanced maneuvers across varied road conditions. We conduct extensive in-car coaching to refine your driving habits.
ADI Part 3: Practical Instructional Ability
The final test evaluating your coaching skills. You must demonstrate effective lesson structuring, client-centered teaching methods, and safe hazard management. We guide you on student interaction, roleplay, and modern coaching frameworks.
PDI Trainee License (Earn While Training)
Once you pass Part 2 and complete 40 hours of Part 3 training, you can apply for a Trainee License (PDI). This allows you to join our franchise and charge pupils for lessons, gaining invaluable real-world practice and earning money before your final Part 3 exam.
Qualified Green Badge & Job Offer
Congratulations! Upon passing Part 3, you are fully qualified. At LBZ Driving School, we will provide a guaranteed job offer to join our local Luton, Leighton Buzzard, or Bedfordshire franchise networks to immediately start your independent career.
